KAL Training Academy

What is it?
The KAL Training Academy sessions are delivered throughout Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) and support swimmers through their development in the pool.  We encourage swimmers from Stage 6 and above to attend the Training Academy to improve their stamina and technique.

KAL have reviewed the current criteria for KAL Swim Training Academy and to support the Aquatic pathway new criteria will be introduced from 1st August 2016. These changes will take effect for all current members from 1st January 2017.

KAL Aquatic Pathway has identified that Kirklees has a wide range of quality providers for Stage 6 and above. KAL Swim Training Academy is the introductory stage for a swimmers development towards KAL Swim Performance. Local Clubs provide both quality swimming and a social environment to support a swimmers journey towards lifelong participation. Therefore a criteria review has been completed to improve the competitive pathway for swimming in Kirklees.

Swimmers will progress through Stages 8, 9 and 10 in the KAL Training Academy learning new skills such as Starts and Turns.  The content of the KAL Training Academy programme is supported by the  principals of LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) which enables the swimmer to learn the right skills at the right time and at the right stage of the swimmer’s development.

Swimmers from Stages 6, 7 and Medals can attend KAL Training Academy as an additional session or use it as an introduction to competitive swimming.
