FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My child can swim, do they need an assessment?

Yes. Due to varying curriculums at different swim schools or a child may have been taught by parents KAL do insist that any child new to swimming lessons does receive an assessment. In addition to this different learning environments can affect a child and their performance.

When can my child start swimming lessons?

Children can start swimming lessons from 0 - 5 years of age initially. The classes are for an adult and child. Children over the age of 5 can start lessons independently which means parents or guardians don't have to be in the water.

How will I know if my child is progressing through the different swimming stages?

Home Portal is a FREE online service open to everyone who has purchased swimming lessons. At home, via the portal access you will be able to easily view assessment information held in your child's account up to 48hrs after lessons. Teachers will continually assess children and will add updates, so you can track progress. Parents/guardians will also be able to move stages, make payments & receive updates on their children's swimming development.

Do I have to pay for certificates?

If your child is on a junior membership, the stage awards are included in the monthly price you pay for the lessons.

What do I do if my child has additional needs?

KAL follows the Swim England framework which is an inclusive scheme to encourage all children to learn to swim. Swimming instructors are trained to meet the needs of children with additional needs. All we ask is that you make us aware of your individual circumstances when making your initial enquiry and we will ensure your child's needs are met.

How can I help my child gain confidence and practice what they have learnt in their lessons?

At KAL a Junior Membership includes free access for the child to all nine centres with pools so you can take them to public and fun swims to practice their skills and techniques. As we all know practice makes perfect!

Are swimmers allowed to wear goggles?

KAL welcomes swimmers to wear goggles in the later stages. It is important that swimmers gain water confidence and learn water safety skills without goggles.

Do I need to provide floatation aids?

KAL provides all floatation aids for each class when needed so you don't need to bring your own.
